The Anti-Authoritarian Resource Network
The Anti-Authoritarian Resource Network (TAARN) was founded by communication scholars, teachers, and professionals as a response to rising authoritarianism and fascism in the United States and globally. Motivated by the desire to build a braver academia, we connect educators, researchers, and students who are dedicated to upholding the principles of academic freedom, critical inquiry, and community solidarity. Grounded in practices of mutual aid, grounds up networking, and collective care, TAARN resists authoritarianism in all its forms— political, ideological, and economic —while creating resources, partnerships, and spaces that nurture academic freedom and solidarity. Through dialogue, collaboration, and radical imagination, we work to cultivate an academy capable of both resisting harm and fostering hope: one rooted in equity, empathy, and shared transformation. We are also committed to public scholarship and collaboration with organizations that share our vision for a more just future.
We are here to help you build that which you want to see in the world. It does not matter who you are or where you come from – we are here to help. Do you have a project, collaboration, or an outreach? Contact us and we will help to make it happen. Do you need a speaker for a classroom or an organization? Contact us and we will provide them. Do you need a space to develop your ideas with others? Contact us and we will connect you.
This thing feels so big and so overwhelming. At TAARN we believe that the only way we defeat it is together. You don’t have to be an academic in order to join us – we are open to all because we believe that all knowledge has an intrinsic value in this world. Your experience matters. Let us help you find a way to put it to good use. Join us!
